About Me:

I started my career in the United States Marine Corps, where I served as a Corrections Specialist, Corrections Supervisor, and was selected for assignment to the Marine Security Guard Battalion — responsible for the protection of United States diplomatic missions in Egypt and Venezuela. In 1992, while serving as Assistant Detachment Commander in Venezuela, I played a key role in the protection of diplomatic staff and employees during a local Coup attempt.

After the Marine Corps I joined the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, where I worked primarily as a Corrections Deputy and was selected to the agency’s Training Unit where I became a full-time trainer. I also served as an Assistant Team Leader of the Corrections Emergency Response Team. In the training unit I was responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering training to/for law enforcement, corrections, and civilian personnel — managing the instructor program, the agency firearms program, and a curriculum that covered everything from tactical firearms and use of force to defensive tactics, less-lethal force, and force-on-force simulation.

I went on to found TJM Training Concepts, a security and training consulting practice serving law enforcement, private organizations, and everyday people. Shortly after starting my business, I joined the Happy Valley Business Alliance — and before long found myself on the board, then serving as Vice President, and ultimately President for two years. I found that the same principles I’d built my career on translated directly into leading a community of business owners.

I bring with me over 36 years of hands-on experience leading people, building programs, and solving hard problems — straight talk, a no-nonsense approach, and a genuine commitment to the people I work with that doesn’t stop when the meeting ends.
